Couples / Engagement Photo Shoot Advice

So you are in love, why not capture you and your special someone at this wonderful moment. It is a fun thing to do for an afternoon and you will have photos you can look back on for years to come. It can also be a nice surprise for your special someone, or a thoughtful unique gift.

Some couples who are getting married choose to have a photo shoot to celebrate their engagement, an engagement shoot is a great way for a couple to get to know their photographer before the wedding day. Most people don't often have professional photos of themselves taken so I offer this advice;

Avoid wearing clothes with patterns since it creates more of a busy look to the photo. We want to be focused on your faces, not on your outfit. Dress up a little! Dress as if you are going out on a special date. Wear something that makes you feel good but something you might not wear often. Ladies, if you are planning to wear heels, you might want to bring a pair of flats with you in case your feet start to hurt. I like to roam around and try some different scenery so you might be walking a bit!

If you can, pick a location to shoot which has meaning to you, such as the spot where you got engaged, or where you had your first date. Try a few different looks and locations. This can be achieved by layering your outfit, pick an area with some varying scenery. The more time you spend with your photographer, the more relaxed you get.

This is a great time to do a hair and makeup trial before your wedding day. Not only will you look amazing for the shots, but you will feel completely confident on your big day that your stylists will get the right look.

Have fun and interact with each other throughout the session to give your photographer some real moments. Try to do something different every time you hear the shutter go off. After your photographer has placed you in a spot where the lighting is good and the background is attractive, don't stand there stiff hoping for your photographer to direct you. Whisper something in her ear to make her giggle, a subtle kiss in the forehead, cheeks, shoulders, hands, spin her around.

If you are planning to put your photo in an announcement such as the local newspaper make sure your photographer knows the exact requirements of that particular publication.
